Shona walks us through a typical day in the Phlo pharmacy, discusses the most important aspect of her role and shares her primary motivation and core values.
From all the different varieties of careers I have had, I’ve enjoyed working in pharmacy the most. Knowing that you are helping the community gives you a huge sense of satisfaction. My achievements so farsince I began working in pharmacy has shown me that I can do anything If I put my mind to it.
I previously worked in a community pharmacy, but when I came across Phlo I was particularly excited about the opportunity to be a part of a new, innovative and exciting company that I could grow with.
Along with the rest of the pharmacy team, we work to ensure all patients receive the best possible care and that they safely receive their prescriptions as efficiently as possible.
A typical day for me at Phlo would start with checking the prescriptions that have been received and prioritising the most important tasks of the day first. In the Phlo Pharmacy, prescriptions are processed at one end of the pharmacy and are then dispensed and checked against the prescription.
The next process is packing and creating courier labels from the delivery provider that the patient has chosen. Couriers collect prescriptions towards the end of the day, while our same-day prescriptions are collected throughout the day - depending on the time slot chosen by the patient.
At the end of the day my tasks include ensuring all couriers have collected the prescriptions that need to leave the pharmacy that day, to ensure patients have received the outstanding patient service that they have come to expect from Phlo.
For me personally, the fact that no day is ever the same at Phlo and being a part of helping the company constantly evolve is what makes every day in the Pharmacy enjoyable.
Like any other pharmacy, communication is key to ensuring the day runs smoothly and every team member is aware of what needs to be done. Helping each other to complete tasks is standard in the Phlo pharmacy and with the help of the rest of the team, we really strive to provide an excellent service to our patients.
The most important aspect for me is providing the best possible care to our patients and to help make their lives a little easier without the worry of having to leave their house for their medicine.
Being a part of a team that can make this happen is what pushes each and every one of us to do our absolute best to continue to help Phlo succeed and aim to be the online pharmacy that everyone’s talking about.
I like that as a team we can still enjoy having fun whilst also providing excellent patient care and service. There’s isn’t a single thing I could say is most enjoyable as every day is different. One of the really exciting parts of the role is having the opportunity to working closely with other teams in Phlo to understand exactly how our product works and what our growth plans look like in the longer-term. It’s exciting to see how we continue to optimise every part of the Phlo business to make the patient experience as seamless and as enjoyable as possible.
Being able to give back to society is quite personal to me as the healthcare sector has played a huge part in helping my own family members. Giving back is very rewarding for me and motivates me to continue pushing my own boundaries.
I would say my core values are commitment, respect and loyalty.
I am quite an avid reader and love to get into a good book. I’ve always said I would have loved to live in the era of the books I read and experience it first-hand. I also enjoy a good movie or series and can literally watch back-to-back episodes if I’m really into it.
Family time is important to me also as my immediate family are down in Kent so planning weekend trips there is also something that I look forward to on a regular basis.
