Since Phlo Digital Pharmacy's launch in October 2019, patient reception has been overwhelmingly positive, as evidenced by the growing number of excellent Trustpilot reviews and positive patient feedback.

We’ve managed to build and launch what we consider is the most innovative pharmacy service in the UK, providing an excellent app for prescriptions. Our team has worked incredibly hard to care for our patients to ensure they can access their online prescriptions when and where they need it.

Phlo’s patients benefit from a hassle-free, rapid and secure online pharmacy experience, with excellent support from our trained pharmacists.

One of the main questions we are asked is why does Phlo require a picture of my ID?  Though we have touched upon this topic in a previous insights piece, we’ve created this blog to delve into more detail for any patient who would like to find out more.

Why do we ask for ID?

As of 2019, the UK General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) the regulatory body for pharmacies issued guidance, requiring all online pharmacies to “check that the person receiving pharmacy services is who they claim to be, by carrying out an appropriate identity check.

“We must ask our patients for photo ID due to regulations set by the GPhC. All online pharmacies are legally required to verify the identity of the patient using their service. Without verification of patient ID, we would be unable to provide our full service to you.”

Prabhjit Jassal, Superintendent Pharmacist at Phlo Digital Pharmacy

During the registration process, you can choose to skip this stage if you prefer, however, the sooner you upload a valid picture of your ID, the sooner you can order prescriptions and Phlo can deliver your medication.

How do we handle your photo ID?

Your private information and data security, including your ID, is treated by Phlo with the upmost importance. Phlo has implemented the most stringent of data protection and security protocols across our organisation.  Furthermore, we do not share your personal or medical details or copies of your photo ID with anyone under any circumstances.

“Phlo’s internal systems use strong encryption for data in motion and at rest, alongside role-based access controls. That mean access to photo ID data as part of bringing people onto our platform is restricted to our pharmacists. We store data in encrypted form using the same AES-256 algorithms your bank uses and like banks, we hire experienced security testers to perform detailed penetration tests on our systems”.
